Working dogs have for centuries assisted man when natural disasters have occurred. Many people have been rescued from avalanche's, earthquakes and other disasters.
Other ways man has used the working dogs are sled pulling, guarding the sheep and other stock animals.
The Flock Guard dogs were the base from which all the Mastiffs developed. Rare "giant" Flock Guard dogs were selected and bred, specifically to be used as personal guards and later as war dogs.
Working Group dogs are dogs that either perform in their given capacity or at least originally performed as such.
While most registries claim that the desired conformation described in their breed standards emphasizes the functional abilities of the working breeds first, there is still more emphasis on superficial detail than necessary.
