ORIGIN AND PURPOSE:  Originated in Russia. Shepherding and companion dog.

GENERAL APPEARANCE:  The Shepherd dogs from central Asia are dogs of above average and great size, of a coarse constitution, strong, bold, wary of strangers, not very demanding. Adapts easily to different climatic conditions. All that allows the Shepherd Dog of Central of Central Asia to be used widely around the country. The principal regions of these dogs are the republics of Central Asia and the regions surrounding them.

TEMPERAMENT:  Type of great nervous activity; balanced, calm. The predominant reaction is of defense in an active way.

SIZE: Format index: males 100 to 105; females 102 to 108. Height at the withers: males not less than 65cm; females not less than 60cm. 

COAT AND COLORCoat: Coarse hair, straight with a well developed undercoat. On the head and on the foreface of the legs, the hair is short, flat and against the skin. Dogs are distinguished according to the length of their coat: long haired 7 to 8cm on the back and the surface of the body. Especially on the neck, the back of the fore and hindquarters and on the tail. Short haired 3 to 5cm and smooth. Color White, black, gray, straw, ginger (rusty), gray‑brown, brindled, piebald and speckled.

HEAD

Skull:  Wide and massive with strongly developed zygomatic. Flat forehead, stop barely visible. Wide between the eyes, hardly narrowing to the nose.

Muzzle:  Is a little shorter than the length of the skull. Seen from the front and from above, the muzzle appears to be rectangular, whereas in profile it has a truncated shape with a heavy upper lip.

Nose: Strong and black. In light colored dogs a brown nose is acceptable.

Mouth:  Heavy upper lip which hangs at the corners of the mouth. Teeth are white, strong, fitting tightly. The incisors are set at the base on one line. Scissor bite.

Eyes:  Dark, wide apart, rounded and set straight.

Ears:  Small hanging, low set, of triangular shape (cropped short on puppies).

Neck
Short, muscular carried low, forming an angle of about 30 to 40 degrees with the line of the back.

FOREQUARTERS
Seen from the front: straight and parallel. The length of the legs to the elbows (from ground to elbow) is slightly superior to half of the height of the dog at the withers. Angle of scapular‑humeral articulation is about 100 degrees. Forearm straight, massive and long. Pasterns are short wide, strong and straight.

Body
Chest is wide, deep, with rounded ribs. The lower line of the chest is either at elbow level or lower. A W omen is moderately tucked up. Withers are high and well defined, particularly in the male. The height at the withers is of 1 to 2cm superior to the height at the rump. Back is strong, straight and wide. Loin is short, wide and slightly rounded. Rump is wide, muscular and almost horizontal.

HINDQUARTERS
Set parallel, slightly open at level of stifle and hock joint. Legs short. Metatarsalis are thick and set straight. Feet are strong, oval and compact.

Gait
The heavy shortened trot and gallop are the most characteristic gaits of this breed. At the trot, the legs must move in a straight line, with a certain coming together of the forelegs towards a median line.

Tail
High set, in the shape of a sickle, hanging; reaches the hock. Docked short.

Faults
Obesity, Weak constitution, rickety, muscular weakness. slight deviation from the format index, important deviations to be penalized severely. Height at the withers between 64 and 60 cm for the males; between 60 and 58cm for the females. height at the withers below 60cm for the males; below 58cm for the females. Lack of excessive energy, timid character. Great excitability, cowardice. Hale dogs of feminine type. Unilateral and bilateral cryptorchids. Very short coat without undercoat. Hair which is soft, wavy, or curly. Light head, zygomatic arches very prominent, bulging forehead, very pronounced stop, superciliary arches prominent, short or long muzzle. Wrinkled skin on the forehead. Serious fault: narrow head, light, pointed and upturned muzzle. High set ears, not cropped. Light eyes or set on the slant, drooping lids. White Speed on eye. Worn teeth in such a way disproportionate to age. Presence of broken teeth without deformity of the bite. Absence of more than two first premolars of absence of a first and a second premolar. Slight yellowing of the teeth. Serious fault: Teeth small, sparse. Incisors irregularly placed. All deviation in relation to the normal scissor bite. Absence of one canine. Absence of a third or a fourth premolar or of one molar. Teeth with badly damaged enamel. Long neck with insufficient muscle, very obvious dewlap. Flat chest, rather small.

Skin definitely hanging below the chest. Major fault: Very flat chest, narrow, small, insufficiently developed. Abdomen too tucked up (as Greyhound); too voluminous. Low withers, insufficiently marked above the line of the back. Soft back or arched. Major fault: hollow or humps back. Loin long, straight or too rounded. Major fault: long loin, narrow or hollow. Rump a little on the slant. Major fault: narrow, short, very oblique, rump very high. Tail no shortened. Forearm slight deviation o the angle of the shoulder articulation Feet slightly toeing in or out, pasterns a little soft. Major fault: straight shoulder or too closed, deformation of leg bones. Weak pasterns. Feet badly toeing in or out Hindquarters slight deviation in relation to parallelism. Hocks a little close. Hind angulation a little straight. Major fault: definite deviation in relation to parallelism of the legs. Bowed legs. Hind angulation excessively straight. Splayed feet, long or flat. Major fault: badly splayed feet, very flat. Slight deviation in relation to normal gait. Major fault: restricted movements, hobbled.

DISQUALIFICATIONS:  All deviations in relation to the correct scissor bite. Absence of one incisor or one canine, a third premolar, or a fourth premolar or of one molar.

N.B. Male dogs should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
